An important question, before starting a trip around the world, is: How much money do I need?
Naturally there is no general answer for this question. The costs depend on the countries in which you travel, on the life style you live and the things you do. And of course prices change constantly for example due to fluctuating exchange rates and rather high inflation in some countries.
Anyway, in order to give you an idea I will tell you exactly how much I paid for my trip. The numbers I give you are the total costs including accommodation, food & drinks, transportation, tours and any other special expenses. Not included are expenses which happened prior my trip (for example costs for injections).
Details, about what I was doing in a certain country and how much I paid for certain things, can be found in my blog entries about the respective country. (see destinations in the side menu). As my travels continue I will update the list every now and then.

God Bless Couchsurfing
Good idea, will do it soon.
Sounds a lot of money. I must first have a well-paid job before I can afford it. That trip is not for a poor studet. I can afford a backpacking trip through Europe. thatΒ΄s although nice.
Hey Sarah !!! I personally found more expensive traveling in Europe! Get a visa for Australia, works for 6/7 months there and you will easily have those money saved! π
Really interesting. I’m thinking about doing the same trip, but going on then through indonesia, australia and then on a freighter to south america.
Of course 88 days in vietnam are too many!
A question: why did you use couchsurfing just in russia?
Hey Andrea! SEA Is so cheap that I think is better paying 4 dollars as night than looking for coach surfing… you get many more advices from people and also get to know a lot of them more than staying in the same place all the times! π
I also did couchsurfing in Australia. In Asia there weren’t so many opportunities for couchsurfing (did it only once in Saigon) and hostels were really cheap there anyway.
When are you planing your trip? Do you also have a blog? Would be interesting to follow! π
how many day it take from Indonesia to Australia by boat
